ノイズキャンセリング（以下ノイキャン）搭載ワイヤレスイヤホンのコモディティ化は、SONYから始まったといってもいい。SONY「WF-1000XM4」は、長らくフラッグシップだった前モデルを更新する待望のアップデートモデルだ。そしてこのモデルもまた、ノイキャン搭載ワイヤレスイヤホンを再定義する力を持っている。

最初から書いちゃいますが、2021年8月現在においてSONY「WF-1000XM4（以下1000XM4）」のノイキャンの威力は、これまで僕が体験したノイキャン搭載ワイヤレスイヤホン中で間違いなく最強でした。
昨今のワイヤレスイヤホンは安いものからお高い機種まで、ノイキャン搭載の製品が充実しています。しかし、ノイキャンの性能が大きく向上したかといわれれば、そうでもない。ベンチマーク的に比較されることが多いApple「AirPods Pro」のそれを基準にいろいろな製品を試してみると、よくわかります。いい意味でどの製品もしっかりノイキャンしてるんですよね。悪い意味でいうと大きな差はない。
ところが、1000XM4のノイキャンは明らかに静けさのレベルが違うんです。
